I’ve been a fan forever of the Maybelline Color Tattoo Pots. I love a simple and quick makeup routine for my early morning work hours, and was excited to hear that they were releasing a crayon version of the tattoos. They come in 10 shades and are available now across Canada and the US.
The new Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayons have the Color Tattoos that I’ve loved, but in an easy to use chubby pencil. It’s a twist up pencil with no need to sharpen.
Charcoal Chrome and Creamy Chocolate have a shimmery finish, however, not over the top shimmery. Audacious Asphalt is a matte finish and Bronze Truffle is a frost/pearl finish.
The crayon formula is very creamy and smooth and doesn’t tug or drag across the lid when applied. These definitely have a thinner consistency than the pots. So when the crayon is applied, it will be somewhat sheer, needing a few swipes or layers for more intense color. They take a few seconds to dry so you have time to buff them out and reapply a layer. I use my finger, as it’s most convenient, but a brush would do the trick as well. Once they dry, they are set! I had no creasing with these shadows, and after my 12 hour shift, there was only minimal fading! I find they perform just as well as the pot form.
There are definite pros to the crayons. For one, you won’t have to worry that they will dry out like the color tattoo pots can. Also, they are convenient to carry with you…just pop them in your purse. And…when compared to the pots, the pencils have an easier application going for them, except I wonder, will the crayon loose it’s precision? Since it’s a twist up, will we end up with a rounded tip instead of a sharpened precise tip? I guess time will tell. Another tip I have is to make sure the lid is ON. Press the lid on tightly and listen for the click sound, as this will confirm the lid is on tight, and you won’t have crayon marks all over the place 🙂
Overall, I really like these! They are perfect for a quick easy application of shadow, or for use as an eyeshadow base. I like the fact that they won’t dry out like many of my pots have. I do hope that Maybelline releases more shades, and more mattes! Which I am sure they will…..and they’ll be Limited Edition!! LOL.
Let me know if you’ve tried them or plan to.
