Rimmel has launched a new line of lipsticks called The Only 1. A pretty bold name for a lipstick, as Rimmel claims it’s “a no compromise, ALL-IN-ONE LIPSTICK”, which promises to be ‘the only lipstick you’ll ever need’, because it provides ‘long lasting colour, comfort, moisture and wear’. Is this true? Will I only ever need these lipsticks, and never want to buy another brand?? Let’s take a look…
The packaging is sleek and high end looking, with the colour of the shade included on the packaging. The only problem I have with this packaging is that it can be a little difficult to pull the top off. Because the tube is thinner at the bottom and fans out to be wider at the top, you really have to put “some mustard in it” when removing the top LOL.
The lipsticks have a flat top bullet which I’ve found makes the lipsticks more difficult to apply, especially the darker shades. Although Rimmel says, ” Slanted lipstick bullet for an effortless application”, I feel a traditional bullet makes for easier application. When applying Oh-So Wicked from the bullet, I managed to get it everywhere, and it wasn’t pretty. Definitely need a lipstick brush to apply it!
The 2 colours I picked out are Naughty Nude, a rose pink….your lips but better, and Oh-So Wicked a very deep cherry. The lipsticks are very pigmented and opaque with just one swipe. As with all Rimmel lipsticks there is a fruity scent, but the scent with this line is much more noticeable and powerful. The scent does fade with wear, but you should be aware that it is quite a strong and noticeable scent, much more than with their other lipsticks.
Overall, the lipsticks are very pigmented, long lasting and quite comfortable on the lips as they are a very moisturizing formula. They are definitely one of the better drugstore lipsticks on the market right now, but I do wish they had gone with the traditional lipstick bullet to allow for easier application with those dark colours. Also not sure why they decided to up the scent on these lipsticks. Personally I don’t mind the scent as it doesn’t bother me, but if you’re sensitive to scents you may want to skip this line.
So is this the Only 1 you need? Like I said it’s one of the better drugstore formulas for sure, but who are we fooling? There is no way I could limit my lipsticks to just one line….Rimmel obviously hasn’t seen my lipstick collection 🙂 But, if you’re looking to limit your lipstick purchases to one line, then sure, this could be it!
