Maybelline did well with the release of The Nudes Eyeshadow palette, and now they have followed up with The Smokes.
The Smokes, is also a 12 eyeshadow palette, consisting of both matte, shimmers and frosts. Whereas, The Nudes was a warm toned palette, The Smokes, is more cool toned.
The shadows of the first row swatch nicely, with the exception of the black and plum shade ( 3rd & 5th shade). The black shade has sparkles, and feels very chalky & dry. The plum shade is matte and is very dry/stiff. The remainder of the shades are creamy & smooth with decent pigmentation.
Again, the bottom row swatches nicely, with a couple of exceptions. The first shade (brown), is a matte and has good pigmentation, but is very dry & difficult to blend. The save problem exists with the purple matte shade ( 2nd form the right) and the last pink shade. The remaining shades are frosts and have amazing pigmentation with one swipe and are creamy & soft.
- As with the Nude Palette, these shadows definitely benefit from the use of an eyeshadow primer.
- The shadows are hit and miss, not all are consistent with their pigmentation and blending ability. I’ve noticed that the frost shades have the best pigmentation and are far more creamy & soft with great pigmentation, whereas the mattes have a sheerer pigmentation and are on the dry side. That shimmery black shadow just doesn’t work as I find it way to dry and chalky!
- The color selection is very nice, with a range of brown/silver/purple cool tones for Fall
- Ranging in price from 9.99 to 12.99, it’s an affordable drugstore option.
I honestly think it’s a nice palette and that Maybelline did pretty well with it. The only shadow I see myself not using is that black sparkling shade. It’s just bad. There are a few dry shadows there, but with a little extra effort they do work.
Have you spotted it yet? What are your thoughts on this one?
Until next time…..thanks for stopping by!
